Employment Conditions

It is important that nannies are flexible. However, both employers and nannies should ensure that they agree a written contract before the nanny starts his/her new job. REC members are able to provide model contracts and our advice is that any contract should include details of the following:

  1. The nanny’s duties
  2. Start date
  3. Pay, including details of reviews, whether paid weekly or monthly and whether the rate quoted is before or after any statutory deductions. Remember employers are responsible for making deductions.
  4. Holidays, including when these are to be taken
  5. Sick pay
  6. Hours of work
  7. Notice periods for termination of employment
  8. Confidentiality
  9. Pension arrangements
  10. Accommodation arrangements, if necessary
  11. Travel arrangements and costs where applicable
